The Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES) – a US-based organization dedicated to cross-border solidarity and grassroots mobilization – is looking for a qualified and committed individual to serve as our in-country liaison with social movement partners in El Salvador.

Election season is in full swing in El Salvador, as candidates and political parties hold rallies and prepare for legislative and municipal elections on March 4. During its three-year term, the incoming legislature will appoint new Supreme Court magistrates and a new Attorney General, as well as consider competing proposals from the right and the left on critical issues such as water privatization, national spending and reproductive rights. The outcome will set the stage for fast-approaching presidential elections in early 2019.

On the occasion of a U.S.-El Salvador Sister Cities delegation visit to El Salvador from the State of Maine, CISPES joined the Sister Cities Network and the Share Foundation to denounce the Trump administrations recent decision to rescind Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for over 200,000  Salvadorans who currently reside in the U.S.
