Short Film on the Struggle for Education in the US & El Salvador

Blog

"The Right to Learn", a film by Shirley Lavareda of UC Santa Cruz CISPES, compares the Occupy Movement with the Salvadoran struggle for justice, focusing on the specific issue of education. It features the CISPES West Coast touree from this Fall - Cristina Cornejo, youth leader of the leftist FMLN party.

While US schools continue losing funding, being pushed by local,  state and federal governments to privatize education, El Salvador's first left government is making major gains to grant the right of education to all its citizens. The film highlights some of the exciting advancements being made by the Ministry of Education under the leadership of FMLN Vice President Salvador Sánchez Cerén. The Ministry of Education is also engaged in a national campaign to eradicate illiteracy - join the Ministry's effort on the CISPES Literacy Brigade planned for July 2013!
