In El Salvador, on International Working Women's Day, March 8, 2022 (or #8M), feminists from a broad array of social movement sectors in El Salvador took to the streets with urgent demands on behalf of women and girls.

Han transcurrido 9 meses desde que la Asamblea Legislativa de El Salvador instaló la Comisión Especial para investigar el destino de los fondos otorgados por el gobierno a oenegés, para supuestamente investigar indicios de corrupción en pasadas legislaturas, particularmente las presididas por el FMLN. Sin embargo, su concepción se vió rápidamente desnaturalizada por tratarse más de un “show político” que de un esfuerzo genuino a favor de la transparencia y la rendición de cuentas.

The Salvadoran social movement coalition known as the Bloque de Resistencia y Rebeldía Popular (Popular Resistance and Rebellion Bloc) issued a statement yesterday, March 28, condemning the recent wave of homicides in El Salvador as well as the State of Exception that was decreed in its wake by President Bukele. The COVID-19 pandemic hit the LGBTI population in El Salvador hard, significantly increasing structural inequalities and putting vulnerable communities even more at risk. Social movement organizations argue that this outcome is largely a result of government response and public policy that invisibilized and excluded LGBTI communities.
