Action Alert: Tell Congress to Support Permanent Residency for Immigrants with TPS

News

The fight to save Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nearly 435,000 immigrants, including over 260,000 Salvadorans, continues.

The Trump Administration recently cancelled TPS for Nicaragua and Haiti and delayed the question of renewal TPS for Honduras, likely leaving the decision to Trump's pick for Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Congress needs to act in order to create a long-term solution. Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) introduced HR 4253, the American Promise Act, which would grant most TPS holders the opportunity to apply for permanent residency.

The more support for this bill, the stronger the fight will be to #SaveTPS.

Call Script

Hello, my name is, (your name) and I live in (where you live). I am calling to ask you to support HR 4253, the American Promise Act, introduced by Nydia Velázquez of NY, which would create a path to permanent residency for immigrants with Temporary Protected Status who've been living in the U.S. for over 5 years. TPS recipients came to this country fleeing war and natural disaster. They have re-built their lives here and most have children who are U.S. citizens. They deserve the opportunity to apply for permanent residency.

As you know, the Administration has already ended TPS for several countries and could easily cancel it for others. The consequences would be disastrous, not only here in the U.S. but also for their home countries. Congress needs to solve this problem by creating a pathway to permanent residency, which is why I urge you to support The American Promise Act. Will (your Representative) sign on as a co-sponsor?

As of Nov 21 the following Representatives have co-sponsored the American Promise Act:
