Amidst cheering crowds and a sky full of fireworks, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, candidate for the leftist FMLN party, gave a rousing speech on Sunday night to announce victory in the first-round of El Salvador's 2014 Presidential election. He earned 49% of the vote, handily beating his main challenger, Norman Quijano from the right-wing ARENA party, who won 39% of the vote. The elections head to a run-off on March 9.
