Last week, I wrote to you about CISPES' first ever "Radical Roots" Delegation to El Salvador. But I wanted you to hear about it from Rosa Lozano , one the youth organizers leading this trip.
In just 3 days, twelve young Salvadoran-American activists will travel to El Salvador to meet with leaders from the social movement and the FMLN political party and accompany the communities under attack by North American gold mining corporations.
At CISPES, we believe that Salvadoran and Latin@ youth have a unique and vital role to play in the solidarity movement. As Rosa explains, making a donation to CISPES is one concrete way to support their leadership.
We need to raise $3,000 by Friday and we are already one-third of the way there! Please make a secure, easy, and tax deductible donation today!
Thank you for your support!
In Solidarity,
Alexis Stoumbelis, CISPES Executive Director
P.S. Look out for updates on the delegation and the Stop the Suits campaign on our website

Will corporate extortion stand? |

Thursday, 10 June 2010 |
Last week, thousands of allies like you joined together to put Pacific Rim Mining Corporation in the hot seat, demanding they drop their outrageous lawsuit against El Salvador and withdraw plans for a deadly gold mine.
In a flurry of activity across North America, CISPES:
- Flooded the office of Thomas Shrake, CEO of Pacific Rim with over 250 faxes, decrying the environmental, human rights, and public health concerns surrounding their proposed mine. (There's still time to send a fax: just click here !)
- Led simultaneous demonstrations in 6 cities across the US and Canada, including at Pacific Rim's headquarters in Vancouver, B.C. (Anyone care for a nice cold bottle of cyanide water? )
But we won't stop there. Now it is time to bring our solidarity directly to the communities in El Salvador. Can we count on your support for our upcoming delegation?
It is imperative that those hit hardest by corporate schemes and free trade policies directly confront those in power. That's why we flew two community organizers from Cabañas, El Salvador up to Washington, DC to challenge Members of Congress about the dangerous lawsuits that they made possible by signing the US-Central American Free Trade Agreement (some were pretty shocked!).

Thank you for supporting CISPES's hurricane relief effort! |

Tuesday, 12 January 2010 |
We're proud to report that CISPES raised more than $13,000 for hurricane relief in El Salvador, which we sent directly to various organizations working to rebuild their communities (read more about the devastation of Hurricane Ida here .) These contributions represent a physical demonstration of our solidarity with the people of El Salvador during this difficult time. Those of you that sent donations helped support the commitments of the new government, as well as the Salvadoran social movement, to change national policy so that this level of crisis can be avoided in the future. Please see below for more information about where your contribution went, or you can download the description of the projects as a PDF .

CISPES on Democracy Now! and your last chance to donate in 2009! |
|
|
|
|
Thursday, 31 December 2009 |
Dear friend in solidarity,
As you know, 2009 has been a historic year for El Salvador and for
CISPES with the election of the first FMLN government in El Salvador.
We hope you are as rewarded as we are by the solidarity role we played
from within the U.S., stopping U.S. intervention and sending one our
largest delegations of elections observers. Please make a
tax-deductible donation today to keep this momentum going in 2010!
Sadly, recent assassinations of anti-mining activists Marcelo Rivera,
Ramiro Rivera and Alicia Sorto in Cabañas show j ust how dangerous it
can be to defend your community’s right to land and water and to stand
up to corporations like Pacific Rim mining.
But thanks to your support and participation, we have taken immediate
and effective action to support the resistance in El Salvador!
* CISPES brought this story to Democracy Now! on Tuesday, getting
the news about the crisis in Cabañas and the role of the United States
via CAFTA, the Central American Free Trade Agreement to thousands of
progressives across the country.

keep up the struggle! By making a donation of $40 or more to CISPES , we
will send you (or as a gift to someone you choose) a CD of
revolutionary music from El Salvador and a 8.5 x 11 print of our
